Marianne, often Mary, Hunsaker D'Arcy came from a family of twelve children. Born in Illinois, D'Arcy left for Oregon when she was only three and a half or four years old. Beginning a journey so early on in life caused D'Arcy to mature quickly, and to endure the hardships life dealt her during the trip. Once, she was run over by the wagon, but she reported in her memoir that she did not recall incurring any injuries. Her family settled in Fruit Hill, near Oregon City, where D'Arcy's grandfather ...
